Death came a lot quicker than I had originally thought it would. Well, yeah, I mean, it was dragged out since it took me a while to bleed out from the gunshot wounds, but dying itself was a very pleasant experience. There was a soothing serenity about it that made me feel comfortable -- welcomed, even -- and the darkness wasn't scary at all. I felt.... I felt at home.
In this darkness, however, I heard a voice. My mother's voice, to be specific, and she sounded concerned. "Semper," she had said. "You gave your life for your sister. You were not supposed to die by that thief's hand; Sarafina was. But since you took her place, you have not completed everything you were put on Earth to do. Therefore, you are to be sent back -- but in a different form. Reincarnation, if you will. You are to be reincarnated to finish what you were originally put there to do." And that was that. The darkness was gone, and then I was hurtling downward into the nothingness, spiraling, spiraling, spiraling....
When I opened my eyes, I was looking at the top canopy of trees. As much as I had enjoyed the peacefulness of death, it suddenly hit me how much I missed living. Sage, Tam, Sassifrass, Ravi... all of them. The sudden surge of memories made me want to just spring up, but when I tried that, I quickly fell down. Something wasn't right.... hell, I didn't feel right. I looked down at myself to see if I'd been hurt, and I was horribly shocked to see that my body was that of a buckskin/paint foal. I tried to yell, but all the sound I could make was a shrill neigh. My long, langly limbs flailed around as I tried to stand up on tiny hooves, managing to do so but only on legs that were visibly trembling. By my guess, judging by the state of my body, I was a five day old colt (if I was still the same gender, that is). Hobbling around in the underbrush, still trying to get used to four legs and tripping and stumbling over just about everything but air, I frantically tried to look for anything familiar, occasionally neighing to see if anyone was nearby.

Sarafina remembered that memory all too well, she cried day and night knowing that she was supposed to die not her brother. He gave his life for her and she didn't know how to repay him, he didn't even get to see his godson being born or even meet him. Sarafina dropped the pencil on her desk as tears slid down her cheek, she closed the door to her dorm then walked down the stairs, out of the dorm to the stable. She needed to get out of here and fast before she did something stupid to hurt herself, she couldn't stop blaming herself for her brother's death.
She walked over to Pandora's stall, putting on her halter leading her out of the stable she mounted not even putting on a helmet. She knew the rumors that were going around Richmond, saying that she was to blame for death of Semper and she hated it. She saw the only family member die infront of her and there was nobody here to comfort her, Dodger did his best but it wasn't doing her any good, she kicked Pandora in the side asking for a trot, after the first hoof hit the ground she kicked her again asking for a canter. She remembered telling Semper the way she vented was riding but that wasn't doing her any good anymore, her brother meant a lot to her, even though he was a pain in the ass but still he was her brother.
Soon Pandora was galloping down the trail with Sarafina on her back, Sarafina was getting further away from the school and she wanted to be away from the school away from the rumors the people that blamed her for her own brother's death, she hated it. She would have done anything to trade places with her brother, even if it meant she would have died along with Ravi, Pandora galloped into a clearing it was then she heard the sound of another horse, she halted Pandora and turned her off the trail to get to the source of the nieghing.

I can't tell you how many times I stumbled and tripped over things. Sheesh, you'd think the whole forest was out to get me the way I was just hobbling and jerking along. Truth be told, I just was not getting used to having two extra sets of legs. It just was not working out for me. And to go along with that, I could hardly even tell where I was. My new expanded field of vision was driving me mad since I couldn't see directly in front of my nose and face, only around, but at least now I could somewhat see behind me. So that way, if anyone decides to try to sneak up on me, I could try to kick them keyword being "try."
When I heard hoofbeats off in the distance, it made me stop and perk my ears forward (which felt weird, by the way). Surely someone had found me already.... hopefully. I let out another shrill whinny and tried flinging myself toward the sound, once again stumbling along and at the same time trying to listen to anything that might lead me to the other horse in the area.

Sarafina halted Pandora trying to find the horse it was coming from, but now that she was closer to it, it didn't sound like a full grown horse at all, it sounded like a foal. I didn't really know if it was a colt or filly till I got close enough to it, hopefully if it wasn't scared. Pandora pricked her ears foward at the sound of the whinny, letting out a niegh. She jerked her head knowing exactly where to go, Sarafina clicked her tongue to let Pandora take her to where the sound was coming from.
It was then she saw the cutest thing ever, a foal, a few days old from the look of it trying to stand up on it's own. But where was the mother? Sarafina looked around, not seeing another horse in view it wouldn't surprise her if something happened to her these trails where dangerous at night that was for sure. Sarafina slowly dismounted Pandora, letting her graze on the grass, slowly apporching the foal she let out a whistle to catch it's attention, he was so cute "Having a little trouble there buddy?" She said smiling as she squatted to the ground to look less scary to the foal, after a few seconds she stood up then started to slowly apporch it holding out her hand towards him.

When I saw who was making the other horse noises... I couldn't believe it. I was standing perfectly still, my left blue eye and right green eye staring and both ears perked straight at Pandora and Sassifrass. My eyes had stayed the same as when I was human, so maybe she would recognize me. But, for now, I guess all I looked like to her was just a lost foal.
As soon as she stuck her hand out, I attacked it with a nuzzle, nickering and nickering and nickering. Hell, I thought I was never going to see her again until she died. I was estatic. The nuzzles soon went from her hand up to her neck, where I licked the soft skin there (in a completely non-sexual way, mind you. Keep away from beastiality, or whatever it is), then went on to lick her face. My tail was even wagging in a dog-like fashion, if you'd believe that. She had to figure out that it was me, somehow, but just.... how?

Sarafina smiled at the foal, he was adorable she didn't know if he was abandon or not but she guessed that someone would've came running to the foal by now. When he started nickering she smiled, he was so friendly, she never met a colt this friendly even when Dallas was a colt he wasn't this friendly, when she felt him lick her neck she chuckled, witched turn into a laugh when he started to lick her face. Sarafina couldn't remember the last time she laughed like that, infact she hasn't laughed at all since her brother died.
"You're friendly, aren't you boy? She said smiling at him, then she noticed his eyes left blue, right green just like......Semper. A sigh escaped her, she had the weirdest feeling she knew this colt from somewhere but she never seen this colt anywhere before, "I don't know about you, but I have the strangest feeling I know you from somewhere boy." She said smiling at the colt, he was so adorable "You wanna come home with me? She asked stroking his face gently.

When Sassifrass laughed, it was like music to me. Damn, I missed her... I continued to nuzzle up against her, sort of shocked when she said that she thought she knew me from somewhere. Close, I was getting close to letting her know who I was. Maybe I could just spell out "Semper" in the dirt, or something.... not sure how well that would work out. I'd give it a try soon.
Then she asked if I wanted to go home with her. Of course I did! I'd stumble after her for miles if I had to! I nickered and whinnied and snorted in reply, prancing a little in place to hopefully get the message across that I wanted to go with her. I stood as tall as my foal body could, ears up and multi-colored eyes wide.

Sarafina smiled as he nuzzled her, she fell in love with this colt already she was gonna take him home with her, besides he was lucky to survive this long without a parent around. She wrapped her arms around his neck, he was so big and fluffy he was adorable. When she saw his reaction after asking if he wanted to come home with her she smiled "I'll take that as a yes. Smiling, whistles for Pandora who trots towards Sarafina.
Sarafina unclips the lead rop then apporchs the colt, ties a noose in the lead rope then puts it over his head and around the neck, letting go of the noose so that it wouldn't choke him "Now we have another matter to discuss you need a name......Hmm........How about Colby? She asked him, as they started to walk back to the barn.

I waited patiently as Sassifrass took Pandora's lead rope and made a loop, putting it around my neck. I was so excited to be going back to Richmond that once her hands were off the rope, I was ready to take off running. I couldn't, however, since I wasn't sure what trail I was on. She didn't really need to have a lead rope on me, but hey, she didn't know who I was yet. I'd tell her as soon as we got back to the barn.
I pranced around in place, feeling better on four legs now that I had found my sister. I trotted up to Pandora, nickering and reaching up to sniff at her nose to see if she was alright with me being near her.

Sarafina had a strange but good feeling about this colt, it seemed that she was whole again ever since Semper died she hasn't felt this way even when she was with Dodger. Pandora looked at the foal, she let out a soft gentle nicker, she didn't mind his presence at all to her he was just another foal she licked his neck accepting him. Sarafina smiled, she knew her other horses would accept him, even Dallas her stallion.
She resumed walking down the trailing, petting his soft neck every so often. It was a twenty minute walk before they got to the barn, she walked into the barn leading the foal into Pandora's stall for a little bit, she quickly walked into the tack room getting Dallas's old foal halter knowing it would fit, then walked back over to Colby to put it on.

I was glad that Pandora wasn't going to kill me, so I nickered a thanks before following Sassifrass back down the trail, occasionally stumbling along.
We soon reached the barn and my first thought was Bell and Gatsby. Where were they? And Rabbit? I tried to find them as I was put into Pandora's stall, but I couldn't see them. I knew that they had the last two stalls on the end, but I couldn't tell if they were in their stalls or not.
I tried to look over the stall door to see where Sassifrass was going, but I couldn't see. She soon came back and put a halter on me, which I didn't mind. It was nice and loose, so I didn't mind. But then a thought struck me: I was standing in sawdust. I could write in sawdust. I quickly bent my head over and scratched out "SEMPER" in the sawdust, then looked back up at Sis, ears perked forward and tail wagging again.

Sarafina petted the colt on his head then walked over to Pandora, undoing her halter putting it on the hook outside the stall, looking over at Rio and Dallas's stall. Dallas was her only stallion, well for now she was wondering on what to do with Colby the colt, he was so friendly witch was rare. Rio was her Arabian gelding that was currently on R & R do to a sprained tendon and a few broken ribs, she leaned on the stall door for a few moments before turning around seeing something in the saw dust.
She squatted to read the letters more clearly, and what she saw amazed her she looked over to the foal, it wasn't possible...was it? "Semper? Looks over to the colt, it was strange, even though it started to make sense, the eyes, how sweet he was and how eager he was to come with her, she could only hope that it was him.

I watched her face as she read the letters, saying my name. A nicker escaped me and I pranced in place a few steps, dancing as if something extrordinary happened to me. Which, in a way, sort of was happening. I was so fucking close to getting her to realize that I was Semper, not just a random lost foal. I bent my head over again, quickly writing out "YES" in the sawdust also.
((Brain fart. e.e ))

What she was witnessing from this foal wasn't possible but it was happening, this colt was riding down Semper, her brother that gave his life to keep her alive and Ravi, her son. She got weak in the knees, sits down on the sawdust bedding looking down at the yes that was just written. It made sense to her now, she knew this colt was different, he was very friendly, sweet and playful. She looked over to the colt again, his eyes were the same color as Semper's....So she was looking at her older brother, but this time he was a horse, reaches out a hand towards him.

I watched her as she sank down onto the sawdust, her eyes on me. She seemed to be in disbelief, but who wouldn't? I had died in front of her, so I had no doubts that she didn't believe I was who I really was. Completely understandable.
When she reached her hand out to me, I stuck my nose out to touch her hand, nickering and licking her fingers again. I wanted her to know that I really was Semper and that this wasn't some sick dream. I was here, human or not, and I didn't want to leave for a very long time again. Though I'd really like to see Sage, Tam, Dodge, Ravi, Kaleb, and all of my friends again, even if I couldn't verbally speak with them ever again.
