Aerowen was just a little lonely. That is why she was sitting outside in the breeze. She always felt better when she was outside on a night like this. However she was not in the best part of the town. Downtown to be exact. It was the only place that she could afford the rent as well as take care of herself and still have money left over at the end of the month. The stairs were a killer, Aero had to lift her bike to get it safely into the apartment without it being stolen. Aero had even resorted to buying a pocket knife so that she could not be tempted to use her wind to get her out of jams. If she used her wind then she had no clue what could happen. She need to stop calling it hers because it wasn't. It was just something she could control.
She was sitting on the edge of the metal stairs that went up the side of the building. they were those stairs that if you did not lock your window then people could all too easily break in. It was those stairs that criss and cross the side of the building that have a pull down ladder and the whole thing is cold metal that can easily cause blisters. Aero was not so lucky and the ladder was already pulled down. but she was sitting there cross-legged looking out at the street so nobody would try anything.
Amber was sitting on her owner's legs, she preferred the fabric over the cold metal. The metal was cold and she could not cling to it meaning she could fall and neither Amber nor Aero liked the thought of that. Aero was looking down at the young kitten and could not help but smile and stroke the young female. Amber started purring her claws kneading and going through the fabric of Aero's jeans. Aero didn't mind, it kept the kitten in her lap and holding on. Aero wanted to keep the kitten safe. Once summer break was over she could keep her job and live in the Dorm, keeping both of them safe.
Aero sighed as she closed her eyes and lifted her face to the wind, letting the breeze caress her cheek and forehead, using her powers she increased it just a little till it started to lift her hair too much. Then she let the wind settle back down.

I wasn't used to being here in Richmond. All the greenery.... it was nothing like back home in Rachel. There it was all desert, and I loved the desert. Don't get me wrong, Richmond was a very beautiful place, but it was hard adjusting.
When I first came to America from Greenland, from what I can remember, I was terrified. I didn't know anyone but my mother, and since I couldn't speak, I had a hard time making friends. When I showed other kids my empty mouth, they were usually warded off by that, so I was left alone. Not only that, but then when I came to Richmond, I didn't know anyone again, so I was starting all over. Again. And I really didn't want to. It was hard enough finding friends in Rachel and Greenland, so what made my mother think that it'd be any easier for me here? Oh well. She had a job and an apartment now, and I was going to a boarding school-type thing. As much as I hated it, I just had to suck it up and get used to it.
As I was wandering aimlessly downtown at night, I couldn't help but feel like I was being watched. This part of town certainly did look sketchy, but I figured that I might as well get to know my way around the town before school started.
I was walking down the sidewalk, eyes glued to the ground to make sure I didn't end up stepping on something, and I ended up hitting my head pretty hard on something metal. I recoiled back and yelped, my hands flying up to where I had been hit, eyes looking up and seeing a metal ladder right in front of me. The whole thing was reverberating from the impact. I then looked up even more and spotted a girl sitting right up above me and I was automatically embarrassed. Rubbing the tender spot on my head, I tried to hide from the girl, but there was nothing really to hide behind. Not even shadows.

Both Aero and Amber were startled when there was a clang and then a human yelp. Well that certainly explained it. If it was a rock then the sound would have been higher pitch, the clang sounded softer. Someone must not have been watching where they were going and hit the ladder. She would have to paint it someone so that even in the dark people could see it.
Aero started to slowly detach her kitten from her lap and leaned in through the window into her apartment and placed Amber on the floor. The Kitten wriggled and protested then even tried to climb up the wall to get back to Aero but that was in possible. The window was at least 2 feet and a half feet from the ground and Aero had purposely not but any sort of shelf or table near the window so that the only way Amber could get out was if Aero was out as well. Also being only about three months old so she was by far not big enough to jump up to the window herself. It pained Aero to be split from her kitten but she managed to shut the window and could not hear Amber's protests. She opened up the window a little and stroked the kitten quickly.
"I will be right back sweetheart." She spoke gently and scratched Amber's small ears. Then she completely shut the window once more and started down the steps to see if that whomever had hit their head was alright.
((I left it like this in case he was going to run away or get bullied or whatever.))

As I was rubbing my head and trying to figure out what I had hit it on, I heard laughing off on the other side of the street. "Good going there, smart ass." I could tell from the slur of their words that they were drunk, but that wasn't helping my case any.
I went around the ladder of sorts and continued on my way, but I had only gone a few steps when I heard people running behind me. Right as I turned around there came a dark blur rushing at me and I felt something hard make contact with my face, sending me rocking backward and falling onto the pavement, then there was more snickering. Sheesh, they reeked of alcohol... I quickly scrambled to my feet, my eye burning, but one of then grabbed the front of my shirt, sticking their face right in mine. "What money do you have on you?" He growled in a tone that really freaked me out, shaking me a bit. I closed my eyes tightly and looked away from him, but he continued yelling about money that didn't exist and shaking me.
When I had had more of his hot, alcohol-smelling breath, I tried to slam the heels of my hands into his solar plexus to get him off of me. The force of the blow was enough to knock him back, but no sooner had his hands let go of my shirt did his two buddies jump me, knocking me right back down and pinning me. I knew I was screwed by now, but I couldn't call out for help. Sure, I could yelp, but no one would understand that that was the only way I could let anyone know that I was in trouble. One of the men slapped a hand over my mouth while the one I hit began roughly searching my pockets, grumbling incoherent things. I tried to bite the hand of the man that was pinning and silencing me, but I couldn't do it. So I waited, praying that all they did was just search me for money.

By the time Aero had clambered down the ladder it was too late. Whomever had hit their head was gone. If they were stunned they could not have made it too far. It did not seem far away but there was some yelling. Aero being Aero stepped closer to check it out. Aerowen was not a person to leave someone stranded like that. Her knife was in her pocket and felt very heavy and cold against her thigh. She did not want to use it unless she had to. She crept closer up to the noise untill she found two guys holding down someone while a third was digging through his pockets, looking for something.
Aero was not very happy. She was shaking as the fire within her was given fuel. Then before she could even think she was moving. Her steps were silent as her feet touched the ground. She was low to the ground in a feline like crouch as she inched forward. She was behind the guy going through the boy's pockets meaning that hopefully the other two could see her. Then she pulled out her knife and kept the fingers of her right hand wrapped around the hand and the blade that was tucked insode was pressed against her palm. Then in a quick motion her right hand snaked forward and wrapped around his neck while the other hand jabbed forward and wrapped around her wrist.
"Hey boys. Am I missing out on the party?
She grinned slightly, not because she was enjoying herself but because it would annoy the other two meaning they would come after her. With her arms still wrapped around his neck she started to pull him backwards and away from the others to get them to follow. "I hope I'm not because that means I am missing out on all the fun. And that would be be awwwwful." She whined. She could be an actress when she wanted to be.[/blockquote]

The guy with his hand over my mouth was snickering in my face, the stench of alcohol starting to put fear into me. What if they cut me up like my dad did when he was drunk? What if they severed my ears, cut off my feet, cut off my hands? The fear made me keep my eyes wide open, or at least as open as I could. My right eye was already swelling and it was hard for the eyelids to open, so I mainly just looked through my left eye, or what I could see on that side. I didn't dare look away from any of the three.
But then the guy searching my pockets was pulled off of me. The other two looked away from me, but I didn't dare move. Some girl was talking, but I wasn't really paying attention. I was more focused on the two men who looked utterly amused and utterly flabbergasted at the same time.
"Goodbyeeeee, Diva!" One of the men cackled before letting go of me and staggering off, the other not far behind. I was left lying on the sidewalk, eye burning, and pretty shaken. Even though they hardly did anything to me, it was the smell of alcohol that spooked me. I turned to look back at the girl, wondering what she would do with the guy she had in her grasp.

Aero was strangely pleased by the reaction she got. The guy she had trapped was shaking slightly but otherwise he did not move or struggle. Then the other two left but not in a very nice way. With a jerk Aero had then both turned around as she watched both of the guys slowly walking away.
"Next time you will get whats comin to ya!"
Aero called out to them before grinning down at the drunken guy who was wrapped in her not very pleasant embrace. "Now, what shall I do about you?" Aero pressed her mouth right against his ear then spoke in a low voice which would have been soothing if not for the words that came out of her mouth. "I know. Next time you try to rob someone in my area I wont be so hesitant to harm you." With a push of a button on the side of the handle in her hand the spring loaded knife slide out where it glinted in the light from a nearby street lamp. With that she let go of him and by pushing the button she pulled the knife back into the handle as her eyes glinted with silent hatred and the drunk. "Get going before I stop being nice." With that she gave him a swift kick in the butt which got him waddling away as fast as he could. With a satisfied snort Aero turned around to look at the guy that the drunks had tried to jump. Her nose twitched at the smell and a slight but very 'convenient' breeze swept through the alley. Aero walked forward towards him, her eyes looking almost sad but very worried as she got close enough to see his eye. She would have to help. She slowly extended her hand to him with a soft smile. "Let's get you inside, then I can help with that eye of yours. Will you let me help?" She asked softly, voice filled only with concern.[/blockquote]

The girl was saying things to that guy, but I wasn't paying attention to her. I was watching the guy as best I could with my non-swollen eye, wary of his every move and which direction he moved in. Of course I didn't want him coming after me again, so I even debated whether or not to try to crawl away from them, but that girl was my only chance of standing up against these guys. Hell, I'm not a fighter. I've never been a fighter. I can't defend myself against anything. But what if all she wanted was to get them away so she could have me all to herself? I was already beaten down and nearly blinded, so why not? I can't scream. I can't call for help. I'm pretty much blind. I can't fight. I'm the perfect victim.
As she steps closer to me, my head quickly jerks to the side, my eye searching for anything that I could use as a weapon. In the dark, though, I could hardly see anything. The street lamp was just a dying amber light, giving off nothing to ward the shadows away so I could see. I looked back at her, only to see that her hand was coming toward me. Faster than I realized, I jammed my hands and heels into the ground and shoved myself backwards, away from her, until I had backed myself into a wall. My full attention was locked onto her and I even gave a dog-like growl (people say that sounding like a dog is unnatural and weird, but I've found it to be a near perfect way to communicate; and if I do say so myself, I think I sound just like a dog), blue-green eye narrowed onto her. Of course I wasn't sure about her! She had a knife on her, for Ripred's sake. I don't trust people with knives, especially after what my dad had done to me with one. And I still had nothing to defend myself with, damn it.

Aerowen blinked, her surprise clear on her face. Her jaw had even dropped slightly when she saw him pull away from her. Yeah he didn't know her but don't ya think he could have given her even a slight chance?? She was not here to hurt him, she had even saved him from something worse than he had already been through! (the beating that is) Even though he had seen her knife if she had actually been planning on using it to harm people she would have already.
"You think I am going to hurt you?"
She asked for no reason before starting to dig in her pockets. She pulled out her knife, all folded into it's handle of course and placed it on the ground beside her. Then she kicked it softly so that it was out of arms reach before she pulled out her cell phone, a tube of chap stick as well as a few coins. She showed them to him before putting them back in her pockets. "See? I only want to help. I have not even cut anyone with that knife. Actually that is a lie, I have accidentally cut myself with it a few times." She gestured to her knife now far away from her. "Now do you get it?" ((Sorry it took awhile, I have been busy)) [/blockquote]

Of course I thought she was going to hurt me! She had a knife, for Ripred's sake. For all I knew, she had just chased the big guys away so she could get me all to herself since I was already halfway blind with a swollen eye and couldn't yell for help. There was basically nothing I could do to protect myself if she decided to just finish me off right here and now. I nodded when she asked if I thought she would hurt me, obviously wary of her being in front of me.
She set the knife on the ground and kicked it to the side, digging into her pockets and showing me all that she had. She had nothing left to harm me with, and though I still was cautious, maybe she really didn't want to rob me. I looked back up at her face as she spoke again, and slowly I began to figure that she meant what she was saying. Maybe I could trust her. Well, only one way to find out. I slowly hauled myself up to my feet, still keeping an eye on her but willing to accept that she meant no harm now.

Aero sighed, so he finally got her point. She was not going to hurt him. She was starting to get a little curious as to why he was not speaking but he had just gotten beaten. She grabbed up her knife and put it back in her pocket. She nodded in the direction she was going to go and then left the alley. She looked around before contuing to her left. Then she was back at the ladder.
"If you come to my place then I can get you an ice pack for your eyes. It will help the swelling."
She nodded up the ladder before climbing. She kept on going up, even past her window till they were up on the roof. There was a garden and on the other side was a door that lead to stairs. Aero followed the stairs till she was on the second floor. She led him down the hall till they got to the door of her apartment. She unlocked the door and opened it so that he could go in first. Once they were in she shut and locked the door. Before Aero could even take off her shoes the small female calico kitten trotted up to them with news of greeting and complaint. Aero picked up the kitten and showed the boy. "This is Amber. She's my kitten." She looked at him, a question on her face to see if he would pet the kitten.[/blockquote]
