Shit. My iPod was broken. Like, broken broken. Like, smashed screen broken. So here I was in the Apple store, getting a new one. Hey, near-limitless supplies of money had it's advantages. I was browsing in one of the aisles, my head down as I observed the white boxes, repeating all down the aisle in different colors, about every four rows or so. The carpet below my black Converse shoes was a dark gray-blue color. It went well with the dark walls, and dark iron shelves. I loved the Apple store. It was like my home away from home. I observed the good old classic iPod with glee. I found it sort of funny that it cost more than a Nano or a iTouch. I smiled to myself. I was surprised to find that it wasn't even a smirk. A genuine smile. Granted, it didn't open my mouth the slightest bit, but it was the happiest smile I'd felt on my face since I was ten.
I decided I'd get the classic, and an iPhone. I pored over the iPad when I looked down the aisle to see the headphones and speaker set. I set everything back onto the counter, and walked over to them like I was posessed. There, smack-dab in the middle, were the pair of earbuds Lady Gaga had worn in the video Bad Romance. I wanted them so badly. Like, I would've traded an arm and a leg to have something with the DNA of Lady Gaga on it. But I saw the price tag. It was almost dirt-cheap for such an artifcact! Maybe twelve-hundred dollars or more was on the tiny price line. Why hadn't these been taken before? Did people really hate the extravagant so much? Or perhaps they thought they didn't work? They looked perfectly functioning to me. Even if they were in a glass box, which was untouched, by the looks of it, they were incredible.
"Ah, I see you've taken an interest in those." A voice said to me, nearly shocking me out of my jeans. The cashier, who was just leaving her shift, by the look of it. She had a bag slung over her shoulder, and her dark brown hair was set in a messy bun. Her name tag read 'Amelia.' "Oh, uh, yeah." I said, composing myself. "I'm amazed that no one's claimed them yet."
"So am I. Amazing sound, noise-cancelling reinforcement, stylish look..." Amelia said almost enviously. "But no one's been crazy enough to spend that much money on them."
"I think you've found your madman." I laughed.
"Seriously? Well...I have enough time for one more transaction."
"Oh my gosh, thank you!" I said, taking them off of the shelves before gripping Amelia in a vice-tight bear hug. I let go, and she rushed to the counter, smirking and shaking her head. She dialed in the number, and I put my credit card in her hand. She handed me a large bag that said 'Apple ™' on it in big, lowercase letters. It contained my new earbuds, iPod, iPhone, two fifty-dollar iTunes gift cards, and the receipt. Amelia walked away with a smile. I stayed in the store, looking around for something else I could do.
