You'll Have to Get Away from You Know Who [Semper]

I've had it. I've just had it with all this fucking angst and depression. I needed to do something about it, but what? I couldn't just keep drinking The Kick's entire alcohol supply until I was falling over every step, so there had to be something else. They say that exercise is a very good thing when you're angry or depressed, so I decided to take a walk. A very long walk.

Approximately three and a half hours later, I found myself walking barefoot along the beach, my boots slung over my shoulder by the laces, my other hand stuffed into the pocket of my cut-off frayed jean shorts. Tonight was my first night shift back at the fire department, so I also had on my dark navy blue Richmond Fire Rescue shirt on, and it slowly started reminding me of the old days. Back when everything was alright. Back when I could just walk across the hall and spend the night with Chicago. Back when I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life and who I wanted to spend it with. But it was all so different now; Chicago was gone. I was completely lost in my life. Sage and Tam and Hayley were really the only ones I could turn to in this situation and be able to understand what I was saying. I wasn't going to allow myself to vent to Sassifrass after what Kaleb told me about stressing her out and such, which only made me want to bottle things up again, but that always ended badly.

I ventured out onto the pier, being attacked by another flood of memories. The only other time I remember being out here was when I was thinking about killing myself when I wasn't fast enough to get to Chicago before Kaleb did. I almost did, too. Oh, so many times I've thought about just ending it all... I can't swim too good in the ocean, so what better way to kill myself other than going with what I can't do to save myself? As painful as drowning sounds, I figure it's a lot better than death by drugs.

As much as I figured Chicago was dead and how much I wanted to just kill myself so I could be with her, I knew that she wouldn't want that. She'd want me to be happy and just carry on, but how could I? I just couldn't do that without h--

"Semper Capone."

I turned around, spotting only one person within my hearing range. She looked slightly familiar, but I couldn't recall her name. "Yeah?" I answered, staying where I was and looking at her.

I stood there, waiting quietly for the girl to answer. She was so short... well, to me she was. This just all goes back to how I wish I was sometimes just average height. That way I wouldn't have to always look down at people, just like the way I was looking down at her right now. Hell, I didn't even know her name...

I nodded when she asked if I was Semper Capone. How many other 7'1" tall guys are there around in Richmond? I'd bet you anything that I'm the tallest guy in town. I don't like it very much, though.... I can't ever hide from anyone, so it's kinda hard to miss me.

When she asked if she could ask me things, the only thing I could think of was those fucking investigators that kept pestering me with the same questions over and over and over. I wanted to shoot them so bad, but that would've landed me in jail. Kaleb told me so himself. So instead of impaling her on the spot, I took my shoes off my shoulder and let them hang from my hand beside me, I shrugged. "Sure..." I sighed, really not looking forward to this.
